Lesson #17: What you appreciate appreciates

Gratitude is a simple yet powerful tool for living your best life. What you put attention on grows, so bringing attention to the good things in your life makes a lot of sense. For years I have had a practice of bringing to mind the highlights from that day. It was a daily practice between Joey and I that at the end of each day we would declare our ‘3 Wows’ (inspired by one of my coaches). We now do it sporadically, but it is so ingrained that I will often, as I lie down, recollect the highlights of that day.

Today, in the wild surf, as I immersed myself and looked out at the churning sea, I was conscious, in that moment, that this would be a highlight of my day. Really, I was being present to the magic of that moment and the magic of my life.

I have a lot to appreciate in my life and I see it as almost a duty to really appreciate the wonders of life and of being alive.
