Lesson #24: Baby steps

We over-estimate what we can do in a day and under-estimate what we can do in a year.

One of the tools I find really helpful in moving forward on any project is baby steps — finding the smallest possible step and doing it each day.

Perhaps you want to write a book. Write for 5 minutes each day. You want to learn guitar. Pick up your guitar and hold it to play each day. You want to start exercising. Get into your exercise gear each day. Want to meditate. Do 1 minute each day.

The smallest step reduces the resistance to doing the thing, and the daily action allows you to get into the habit.

What is something you’ve been wanting to do, shift or make happen in your life? What is a tiny step you could do almost without effort each day? Put it in your diary. Start today.
