Lesson #52: The Lifebook journey of life creation
I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul — William Ernest Henley
Re-inventing my life
At the start of 2021, while in the midst of a process of reinventing my life, I jumped aboard a Mindvalley program called Lifebook that promised a process for creating a vision for my life. I had already been on a journey of doing all sorts of courses and programs, but this one felt different.
Clarity and direction
Given that clarity and direction are the two things I’ve probably struggled with most in my life, this program held a lot of appeal. What’s more, the offer was that if you finished the course in the six weeks, in other words stayed with it, then you could get the cost of the course (US$500) refunded, no questions asked.
Since the money was a big obstacle, I went into the course fully intending to get my money back. As a result I really threw myself into it and made it my focus for that six weeks.
The wheel of life
Much like many life coaching models, this program broke down our experience of life into twelve categories. For each category there was a video, and a template document for writing your desires, beliefs, vision, and compelling reasons for that category. There were also images, quotes, and responses by others for inspiration and guidance.
Finding your blind spots
Given that it was covering many different areas, the course touched on lots of different ideas and wisdom. The twelve categories covered were: health + fitness, intellectual life, emotional life, character, spiritual life, love relationship, parenting, social life, financial life, career, quality of life & life vision. As such there was no shortage of inspiration. Also, in addressing each area, blind spots or neglected areas of your life became clearer (for me this was probably social life).
Lifebook Mastery program
As the course drew to an end I knew there must be some incentive to not ask for the money back. I had gotten so much from the program that I was curious what they might offer. The incentive turned out to be entry into the Lifebook Mastery program where all of the inspiration and clarity would be consolidated.
The Lifebook Mastery program provided additional structure for realising the goals set in each area. The twelve areas were distilled into a Life Vision statement (to be read each day), plus a structure (goals and daily habits) for moving towards that life vision.
One year later
It’s been a year since I finished the program and began implementing the daily habits. And as I sit here writing this, puppy sleeping by my side, Vortex sculpture half built in my yard, Cloudscape sculpture model completed downstairs, new friendships created and my business offerings clearer than ever, I know that this Lifebook process has helped me find the clarity, direction and sense of purpose I struggled with for so long.
Moving forward
To jog my memory I pulled up some of the documents I created in these two programs (Lifebook and Lifebook Mastery). I’m inspired to re-read what I wrote to see how it feels and what jumps out. At some point in the future I will go through the whole process again, although right now is not that time.
I loved this program so much that I considered joining in the certification process for supporting others to go through this journey. That can remain an option for the future, but right now I am developing my own system of transformation that will no doubt include elements of this journey.
Gratitude
I’m grateful for the Lifebook journey, for the clarity I gained, and for the inspiration and generosity of Jon and Missy Butcher who created and ran the program. And I’m grateful every day for my life. Having the sense that, finally, I AM the master of my fate and the captain of my soul. I know that as I lift myself up I get to lift others up too.
A rising tide lifts all boats
If you are lacking clarity or direction I recommend the Lifebook program which is run on the Mindvalley platform (which I also recommend).
And for now and the forseeable future, I’m offering a FREE 45 minute Discovery call where we will discuss where you are at, where you’d like to go, and some steps to get you moving there (which could involve working with me but not necessarily). It would be my honour to meet and talk with you.
Thanks,
Orly
