Lesson #68: You must shine a bit

I just watched a Sadguru video that I had sent to myself months ago. Found while decluttering my emails this morning.

The video was titled 6 Things To Do to Earn Your Child’s Friendship.

I found the video validating of my own views on life. So the big lesson for me — which is where I’m at right now — is in line with his 6th piece of advice, that being, You must shine a bit.

I have a great relationship (and friendship) with Joey. I’m sure it isn’t perfect, but I’m proud of Joey and I’m proud of our relationship.

In following my dream to set up my business, two strong motivations have been

  1. being available for Joey, and
  2. setting an example by living my dreams

On my journey of putting myself ‘out there’ — on Instagram, at market stalls, and on the web, I have been pushed to ‘shine a bit’.

Joey hasn’t been afraid to say what he thinks and has at times ridiculed my seemingly delusion hopes and dreams, but at least he hasn’t seen me giving up or doing nothing.

As Marianne Williamson wrote:

You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Sadhguru says:

Be the kind of person they want to be like ..

You must make them fall in love with you ..

You must shine a bit ..

(6 things to do to earn your child’s friendship)

What do you think?

PS I just realised after writing this that today’s Wordle was also SHINE!
